This Sunday, we’re discovering…
Big Idea: God's power is awesome.
Bible Story: Moses and the Sea - Exodus 13:17-18; 14
What you do
Watch the worship and story video together (and learn the verse of the month!!)
Talk about each of the questions to keep the conversation going
Pray together!
Make it - check out our suggested art activity.
Move it - to have some fun, move around, and reinforce the big idea!
Verse of the Month
Great (jazz hands)
is our Lord (point up)
and mighty in power (fists on hips)
Psalm 147:5 (open hands like a book)
God gave us the words of the Bible to show us who He is!
Practice the verse a few times! In Mission Kids, we often practice saying it different ways, like sqeaky, SUPER LOUD, or with a roar!
Talk It Out
Was Pharaoh a nice king? (no, he hurt God’s people)
How do you think God felt when he saw his people being hurt?
Who did God send to help His people? (Moses)
What did Moses tell Pharaoh? (To let God’s people go.)
Did Pharaoh let the people go? (Yes, after being told many times)
What happened when God’s people got to the sea? (Pharaoh’s army was coming after the people and they had nowhere to go.)
What did Moses tell the people to do? (To trust God, and to listen to Him)
What do you do when you don’t know what to do? (Ask for help, etc.)
What did God do for His people? (He told Moses to hold up His staff, and the sea parted, and His people walked across on dry land)
Who is powerful? (God is powerful!)
Pray Together
Before you pray, make a list of animals that live in the sea. Then pray together using the one below or your own.
“God, your power is so amazing. You parted a sea so Moses and the people could walk on dry land. Not only did your power part the sea, but you made the sea and everything that lives in water like (read the list you made). God, you truly are amazing! Thank you for loving us. We love you, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
MAKE IT // ART ACTIVITY
What you need: Activity page (view/print below or grab from your August Church Kit!), large craft stick, tape, yellow dot markers.
What you do:
Give your kiddo an activity page and help them glue three strips of streamers on one side of the page and three on the other to make water walls.
Color the page.
When you are done, remind your kiddo, “God’s power is amazing! His power split the sea and gave Moses and the people dry land to walk to the other side away from Pharaoh’s soldiers. Who is powerful? God is powerful!”
MOVE IT // ACTIVE ACTIVITY
What you need: Pool Noodle or something to make a “staff”.
What you do:
Have your kiddo stand on one side of the room while you stand on the other with your “staff”.
Tell your kiddo to listen for their name then say, “God’s power, God’s power, parted the sea. Now it’s time for (kiddo’s name) to come to me. Come on over (kiddo’s name).”
Repeat as many times as desired.
YOU DID IT!
Continue the conversation all week by reminding each other of all the ways that God’s power is awesome!
