This Sunday, we’re discovering…

Big Idea: God's power gives us what we need

Bible Story: Moses and the Water - Exodus 17:1-7

What you do

  1. Watch the worship and story video together (and learn the verse of the month!!)

  2. Talk about each of the questions to keep the conversation going

  3. Pray together!

  4. Make it - check out our suggested art activity.

  5. Move it - to have some fun, move around, and reinforce the big idea!

Verse of the Month

Great (jazz hands)

is our Lord (point up)

and mighty in power (fists on hips)

Psalm 147:5 (open hands like a book)

God gave us the words of the Bible to show us who He is!

Practice the verse a few times! In Mission Kids, we often practice saying it different ways, like sqeaky, SUPER LOUD, or with a roar!

Talk It Out

  1. Who was the leader of God’s people at the time in the story? (Moses)

  2. Where did they live? (In the desert)

  3. Where do you live?

  4. What is there a lot of where we live? (water, sand, grass, trees, etc.)

  5. What was not in the desert where God’s people lived? (Water)

  6. How did the Israelites feel about not having water? (they were thirsty, and maybe grumpy because they didn’t have any water)

  7. Instead of whining and complaining what did Moses do? (He talked to God and told them how they were  feeling.)

  8. What did God tell Moses to do? (Hit a big rock with his staff)

  9. How did the people feel after God answered their prayer for water? (They were so happy, and they knew only God had the power to help them)

  10. Can you make water come out of a rock?

  11. Who is so powerful they can make water come out of a rock? (God is)

Pray Together

Before you pray, make a list of things we need. Then pray together using the one below or your own.

“Dear God, You know everything! That means You know we need things like (read the list you made). We believe you have the power to give us what we need. Thank you for already giving us Jesus to be our friend forever. We really need Jesus! We love You, God. Amen.”

MAKE IT // ART ACTIVITY

Wk 3 Craft.png

What you need: Rock, blue paint, and a paintbrush

What you do:

  1. Give your kiddo a rock and encourage them to paint it blue.

  2. Remind your kiddo, “Moses knew that whining and complaining wasn’t good to do, so he talked to God about it. Moses told God that the people felt that God wasn’t helping them. But we know that God is always with us and has the power to help.”

MOVE IT // ACTIVE ACTIVITY

What you need: Gray construction paper (5 sheets), Blue construction paper (5 sheets)

What you do:

  1. Place the blue and gray paper on the floor in a circle path, alternating blue, gray, blue, gray.

  2. Hop from rock to water, after a few seconds say, “freeze” and whoever is standing on a rock says the verse (see above section for August’s Verse of the Month!)

  3. Continue a few times more.

That’s a wrap on Church at Home!
