Big Idea: I can trust God!
Bible Story: Elijah and the Fire - 1 Kings 18
What you do
Watch the worship and story video together (and learn the verse of the month!!)
Talk about each of the questions to keep the conversation going
Pray together!
Make it - check out our suggested art activity.
Move it - to have some fun, move around, and reinforce the big idea!
Verse of the Month
I (point thumbs to chest))
trust in God, (point up)
I am not afraid (cross hands back and forth and shake your head)
Psalm 56:11 (open hands like a book)
God gave us the words of the Bible to show us who He is!
Practice the verse a few times! In Mission Kids, we often practice saying it different ways, like sqeaky, SUPER LOUD, or with a roar!
Talk It Out
Who was Elijah? (He was a friend of God, and he knew God could do anything)
Did Elijah or King Ahab trust God? (Elijah)
Who did King Ahab believe in? (A pretend god named Baal)
Elijah wanted the people to know there is only one true God, so what did he do to show King Ahab the truth? (He challenged him with a test)
What was the test? (Whichever god could light the altar on fire was the real god.)
When King Ahab prayed did Baal light the altar on fire? (no!)
What did Elijah do with his altar? (He had people pour water on it and then prayed)
What happened when Elijah prayed? (God set the altar on fire)
What can God do? (God can do anything!)
Who can trust God? (I can trust God!)
Pray Together
Before you pray, make a list of things you want to say to God. He loves it when we talk to Him and we can say anything. When you are done, pray together using the one below or your own.
“Dear God, thank you for always being with us and hearing us when we talk to you. Today, [child’s name] and I want to say (read what they listed). We believe we can trust you with everything and that you can do ANYTHING. You are awesome, God! We love you. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
MAKE IT // ART ACTIVITY
What you need: Activity page (view/print below or grab from your June Church Kit!), red, orange, and yellow tissue paper, crayons or markers, glue stick, and scissors.
What you do:
Cut the tissue paper into little squares.
Color the page.
Work together to glue the tissue paper to the top of the altar for the fire.
MOVE IT // ACTIVE ACTIVITY
What you need: no supplies needed
What you do:
Stand in the middle of the room and ask your kiddo to do different movements in different quantities.
Ex: five star-jumps, four jumping jacks, two spins, three twists, and one frog jump.
Repeat as many times as desired.
When you are done tell your kiddo, “You can do amazing things! Do you know who can do anything? God can do anything! And who can you trust? I can trust God!”
YOU DID IT!
Continue the conversation all week by reminding each other of all the ways that we can trust God!
