Love, Mission Kids

This Sunday, we’re discovering…

Main Point: Jesus is amazing!

Bible Story: Calming the Storm - Matthew 8:23-27

What you do

  1. Watch the worship and story video together (and learn the verse of the month!!)

  2. Talk about each of the questions to keep the conversation going

  3. Pray together!

  4. Make it - check out our suggested art activity.

  5. Move it - to have some fun, move around, and reinforce the big idea!

Memory Verse

Everyone (arms out)

who heard him (hands behind ears)

was amazed (hands around eyes like binoculars)

Luke 2:47 (hold hands like an open book)

God gave us the words of the Bible to show us who He is!

Practice the verse a few times! In Mission Kids, we often practice saying it different ways, like reallllyyyy sllowwwllyyyy, SUPER LOUD, or with a roar!

Talk it through together

  1. Have you ever been afraid or scared of something?

  2. Do we have the power to control the weather? (no)

  3. Who was in the boat in the storm? (Jesus, and His friends)

  4. What did the disciples do when the big storm came up? (They got scared)

  5. What was Jesus doing during the storm? (He was sleeping)

  6. What did Jesus do when His friends asked Him for help? (He told the storm to stop.)

  7. Who has the power to change the weather? (Jesus)

  8. Who is amazing? (Jesus is amazing!)

  9. Have you ever asked Jesus to help you when you are scared? (If your kiddo has a hard time answering this question, tell them about a time when you asked Jesus to help you when you were scared.)

Pray Together

Before you pray, ask your kiddo what one thing they are afraid of. Then pray together using the prayer below or your own.

“Dear God, thank You for sending Jesus to help us when we’re afraid. Help (kiddo’s name) and me remember that Jesus is with us when we are afraid of (kiddo’s answer). Jesus is amazing because He has the power to do anything! You are the best, God, and we love You very much. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

MAKE IT // ART ACTIVITY

IMG_6190.jpg

What you need: Wikki Stix (in the January Church Kit) OR paper and crayons.

What you do:

  1. Use your Wikki Stix to make a boat. If you are using paper and crayons, draw a boat, and then cut it out.

  2. Now wiggle your boat around like it is in a storm in the sea.

  3. Take turns saying, “stop,” to stop the boat. Remind your kiddo that Jesus had the power to stop the storm!

MOVE IT // ACTIVE ACTIVITY

What you need: Activity Page (grab it from the December/January Church Kit if you have one!)

What you do:

  1. This activity is great for outside! Sit on one side of the yard, patio, or park and say, “One, two, three, blast off” and challenge your kiddo to get up and run to the other side of the yard.

  2. When they reach the other side, say, “Jesus is amazing!” together.

  3. Repeat until you all fall down from exhaustion :)

YOU DID IT!

Continue the conversation all week by reminding each other of all the ways God is amazing!
