This Sunday, we’re discovering…

Main Point: God gives people to guide us.

Bible Story:  John the Baptist is Born (Luke 1:5-25; 57-80)

WHAT YOU DO

  1. Watch the video! Sing and dance along to the worship songs, watch the Bible story, and connect the big idea to real life!

  2. Talk about each of the questions to keep the conversation going

  3. Do the activity together to have some fun and reinforce the big idea!

Question of the day! (all ages!)

  • Go around the room and ask the question: “Would you rather have to live in a place that is always hot, or a place that is always cold?”

Questions for 1st-3rd Graders

  1. How do you think Zechariah felt when the angel appeared to him?

  2. What happened when Zechariah didn’t believe the angel? (He couldn’t talk!)

  3. What did the angel say John was going to do? (John was going to guide people to Jesus)

  4. Have you ever gotten surprising news that was hard to believe?

Questions for 4th-5th Graders

  1. How did Zechariah react when the angel appeared to him?

  2. What happened to Zechariah when he didn’t believe the angel? (He couldn’t talk!)

  3. Have you ever gotten news that was difficult to believe?

  4. What did the angel say that John was chosen to do? (John was going to guide people to Jesus!)

  5. How have people helped guide you to Jesus?

3. DO IT // ACTIVITY

ACTIVITY 1 -PICTIONARY

Take the Christmas Pictionary activity sheet (view/print below or grab from your December Church Kit!) and cut out the paper strips. Then put them in a bowl or hat, split into two teams, and play Pictionary together! One person draws and the rest guess what it is! No words!

Sometimes it can be frustrating when we don’t know the whole picture, but God promises us that he’ll give us people to guide us as we follow him!

ACTIVITY 2 - EXTREME SIMON SAYS

Click the link below to follow along with the Simon says game! See if you can keep up! (The game starts at 2 minutes into the video)

Simon Says is tricky, but we can trust that when God gives us directions he never tricks us -- He guides us!

YOU DID IT!

Continue the conversation all week by talking about showing mercy and trusting God!
